Yesterday this poor cat was found under a car in the middle of Georgioupoli it must have had an owner does anyone recognise it?
It is bewildered, thin, typical Persian runny eyes/snuffly nose its coat is matted will have to be shaved under sedation.
Sex not quite sure difficult to tell due to matted fur despite liking strokes she/he won’t allow us to touch the tail end!No microchip. Please contact us if you know of anyone who has lost this cat.
We have an appeal for our little group of misfits that came into us over the weekend.
Two sets of tourists left the island traumatised spending the weekend either fishing ginger kittens one by one out of boiling wheelie bins, stuffed into cardboard boxes left to die in Kalyves or tabby kittens left ignored by the roadside dying of dehydration sitting on their dead mother in Almyrida. The kind tourists that picked them up spent an agonising 2 days dodging hotel staff whilst trying to find someone to help.
We never usually mix recovering/cats kittens this time we made an exception. They were all bewildered & dazed, dehydrated, heaving with parasites, eye injuries from serious cat flu, roughly the same age.
They are now sweet smelling from their baths, parasite treatments started, cuddled up with each other & have made their own little family!
Approximately 3-4 weeks of age we have:
Two ginger & white females Larger kitten (the one in the igloo) has infection damage to her left eye (cataract), vision is normal in the other eye and seems not to bother her at all. Cat flu is receding & she is a little dumpling eating everything, naughty little miss, ready to go in 2 weeks.
Her sister is more red in color, tiny undernourished & the noisiest of the bunch with a piercing squeak! Her cat flu is slower to go but she is playful and delightful, may take a little longer till ready for re homing.
Two stunning tabbies
The female is utterly gorgeous & surprisingly has no signs of infections at all, quite docile & still confused at losing her mother with doe like eyes she could be re-homed any-time. Her brother is the most stunning tabby & he will be a big boy when eventually fit & well.
Sadly his right eye has been completely destroyed by infection will need surgical closure at about 12 weeks of age. His other eye is perfect & he will see & behave as a normal cat but will need to be with us a few months. We will as always assist with neutering and vaccination.
Please contact us if you can offer a home if not as always we also need to raise funds for their treatment & care. If adoption does not happen on Crete we must fund transport to Woodland Nook in the UK.
This affectionate girl was seen by one of our volunteers outside a mini market in Kokkino Chorio, she was begging for food but mutilated from acid/toilet cleaner being thrown deliberately into her face.
Allegedly the sub human who did this was irritated that his own cat’s food was being eaten by this starving girl. This happened approximately a week ago (@Good Friday) & she was left in agony from the toxic substance burning her eye/sinuses/paws causing irreparable damage & infection.
Our dedicated & tireless vets have removed her eye & started treatment for the infection. She will hopefully do very well but her skin will take time to heal, she is with us for the time being for nursing & re homing. We are asking for the funds for her care, vaccinations, microchip, and passport in addition flight costs to send her to our colleagues at Woodland Nook in the UK.
If anyone would like to adopt on Crete that would be very welcome.
The local Mayors office & our Greek animal welfare colleagues are actively involved in seeking to prosecute the offender.
As usual after a neutering session we have various waif & strays needing homes these little ones are stunning & in perfect health.
Six weeks of age all boys various colours, even a fluffy one! [envira-gallery id=”458″] Domesticated & delightful (we will assist with neutering) they have been parasite treated can anyone offer a home?
26th March 2016: a few days ago Teddy was reviewed by George and due to his stress ulcer and his vastly improved condition it was decided that he was ready to return to the olive groves of Tsivaris, his jaw brace was removed. He had quite a crowd to see him off and didn’t hang around looking for his next meal!
On Friday 26th February this poor boy was found unconscious, bleeding from his ears/mouth by the roadside on the Kefalas/Vamos road.
Obviously hit by a car he was lucky to be found by a caring individual who took him to George in Souda, his broken jaw has been wired & his broken pelvis requires 8 weeks cage rest then gentle physio.
Having need of cage nursing for 8-10 weeks we were asked to assist & we picked up ‘Teddy’ as he is now known from George on Monday (29/02/16), is anybody missing this boy?
We cannot touch him but that maybe due to stress/pain/head injury or he may be a roaming village tom (not anymore…) now neutered.
If anyone knows who he belongs to please let us know he will be with us until fully recovered fit to go back.
Many thanks to the generous finder who also paid his vets fees.
The Federation (Pan-Hellenic Animal Welfare and Environmental Federation), in its effort to enforce the animal loving idea to the new children, in cooperation with the Municipality of Apokoronas has already started at the schools of the Municipality the presentation of the educational program “Living together with the Animals Around Me”, that Ms Melita Lazaratou created.
Almost all teachers responded to the invitation of the Municipality and our Federation and the young pupils surprised us pleasantly with their knowledge and questions concerning animals.
Our program is presented in the schools of Chania and Crete as well as the rest of Greece since 2008 and has contributed a lot to the change of our attitude as concerns animals. animals.
Mrs Aggeliki Bartsioka, member of the BOD of our Federation and President of the Animal Welfare Association of Lamia is presenting the program.
The Municipality of Apokoronas covered the air tickets expenses of Mrs Bartsioka and Mr. Venetaki’s Pet Shop other expenses of the program.
