We get many requests to take in healthy, unwanted pets & strays for various reasons; when people leave the island, kittens/cats picked up off the roads which are otherwise well and managing to survive.
Today this little tabby & white kitten arrived from Kefalas brought in by the colony carer, we think he/she is about 6 weeks of age too traumatized to handle the sex remains a mystery for now. The mother was neutered last weekend this was her last surviving kitten, thankfully no more kittens will be born to an infected mother. Both eyes are blind they will need removing after months of medication and care.
We are appealing for donations to fund the care, operations and flight costs for the little tabby, if anyone can adopt offering a safe home indoors please contact us.
The images of these two little ones illustrates why we cannot always help & often turn people away. Our resources are finite, the nursing is often complex, difficult and time consuming. We make difficult choices to be able to take in those that have little chance of survival otherwise.
Poppy our black kitten is a very lucky girl, we are working with a Finnish welfare organisation to re home her. Blinded by eye infections she will have to have her eyes removed when she has grown, they are funding her care/flight and have already found a home in Finland for her.
